Bullbeggar is produced by the Lamyatt village co-operative, deep in the Mendips, using traditional methods, from local apples, and aged in old rum casks. A "bullbeggar" is a mischievous spirit, in the local dialect.
Dark amber, with a sharp fruit aroma, carrying some wood and caramel.
Crisp, sharp fruit, with some pepper, gives way to astringent, tarry wood, and a hint of dark rum in the dry finish, alongside some earthy funk.
Old-fashioned, astringent, West Country cider, with just a hint of sparkle, but bags of character. Support this wee community (population 183) enterprise, if you get the chance, and you won't be disappointed.
Obtained online from Somerset Cider Company.
