The water was perfectly still. I imagine this could be viewed as good or bad, depending on what you fear. I didn't like it. Calm can only be a precursor to chaos. Only horrors live in the deep.
There was no breeze when the ripples spread across the surface. I'd already taken my armour off, might as well wear an anchor, so when the boat capsized I was able to keep my wits about me. It's hard to swim with a sword in one hand, so I kept one hand on the overturned boat, the sword ready to stab into the darkness.
This cider is still water under grey skies, the apprehension of the deep.
