Under the nose - fresh apple peel and a hint of oak. Some caramel and orange too.
The taste is a bit thin - but it’s ‘nice thin’ if that makes sense? The taste is sharp, lightly tarty and pretty full. There’s a lovely sweetness and whilst the label boasts that the cider is bright and fruity - it’s not wrong! The length is pretty good but fades. On the palate it’s sharp and spikey with brown sugar hints and apple peel greatness. The colour is a dark bronze with very light carbonation and it just looks great in the glass.
The aftertaste is pleasant, not very dry but seeet and swells around lingering with pomp and presence on the palate and in the mouth. This cider is incredibly drinkable and strongly refreshing - and what I mean by that is it tastes a lot stronger than a 5%ABV.
Interestingly, Weston’s own organic effort is 6%ABV and this is 5%ABV - and I’d drink this one all day long as it’s not as (sickly) sweet. Whilst it lacks in nose compared to Weston’s 6% version, this 5% version is an absolute winner. Its medium in body and a solid all-rounder.
If it was more smooth and fuller in body, it’d be kicking the door down to a 5/5, but whilst you could ‘session’ on this cider, it’s just slightly too tart to receive the golden 5 and therefore is a really solid and recommended 4/5.
This 2022 was a bit of a find in 2025 - and I got lucky - but it was great to review it and I enjoyed it very much.
