Ferme de la Sapinière Cidre Demi-Sec (4.5% ABV, 750ml) is another cider from the coast of Normandy (Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, Omaha Beach, Départment Calvados - how perfect ;) ). The cidery of Michel et Philippe Legallois was established in 1987. This cider contains sulphites, and there's no mentioning of organically grown apples. This bottle comes without a label on the back, other than a small sticker that says "Contains Sulphites" in German. The colour is bright, hazy golden, with a small white head and plenty of bubbles in the glass. The Cidre Demi-Sec has a nicely funky, earthy farmhouse aroma of greenish apples, vinegar and yeast. Medium body, moderate to lively carbonation. The farmhouse notes extend to the palate: Slightly rough, earthy, apple flavour that is sweetish, tannic and a bit sour at the same time, again with plenty of yeast in the mix. This continues, with hints of honey and funk, into the finish - which is predominantly yeasty, slightly sweet, but with balancing tannins. Aftertaste is semi-sweet, slightly earthy. Very likeable farmhouse-type cider, a little rough around the edges, but very fruity and neither too sweet nor too dry. Demi-sec fits the bill. 8/10
