I used to practice fighting with my eyes closed. I'd blindfold myself and spar with my squadmates, using wooden practice swords. They thought it was a foolish drill, and they'd always beat me, laughing, but it wasn't about being able to win a fight blind. I knew it wasn't likely. It's about having the mental fortitude and confidence to be able to handle a fight in the dark without panicking. I got comfortable with darkness. So when I tackled the creatures in the dim light I was able to strike without hesitation. By the time they were aware there was a fight, the fight was decided. I parried a few talons with my dagger and delivered the finishing blows with my sword. Evie was beneath them, thankfully still alive, and our cleric went to work.
This cider is a patient preparation.
