Well, this one is certainly out on its own! And don’t let the name ‘Wobblejuice’ mislead you as its ’only’ 5.2%ABV. (I do remember a cider called ‘Legless and I must track it down again and review it).
The aroma is incredibly intriguing! Marzipan? Peaches? It’s all in there - strong sense of a dying wood fire, leather vanilla, farmyard funk and more - everything you could almost think of. It’s so nice to come across such an interesting cider before you’ve even taken a sip!
What does it taste like? Well, within seconds you can taste ginger - and I’ve had a ginger cider before (New Zealand) - but this isn’t labelled, or, supposed a ‘ginger’ cider.
It’s solid bronze in colour with ‘a hint of fizz’ (as it says on the bottle label) and is full of flavour with vanilla notes, oak, bitterness and a kick back sour finish.
It has a sweetness for sure but is mostly on the dry side. The cider has a of watery aftertaste but it’s not off-putting.
The body is medium and well rounded. The taste of apple peel lingers leaving a memorable and intriguing cider experience.
I’ve wrestled with giving this a 5/5, and perhaps on another day I might - and as intriguing as this cider was I feel it’s a real solid 4/5 as it lacked a bit of body and overall ‘punch’ to notch it up to a five.
