It’s ok; I think the 2021 vintage was better - my last review seemed to think so anyway!
Under the nose there are some faint hints of earth and lemon peel.
The taste is fairly sweet with a medium-dryness at the back of the palate which kicks in after a second or two.
This 2022 is quite watery in taste and a bit thin on the ground in terms of complexity for a cider that packs a vintage label and an 8.2%ABV. There are hints of caramel on the tongue and it’s quite biscuity with swells of light caramel. There’s also a slight stickiness to the taste that’s got a bit of oak and light tannins. It’s medium dry for sure and medium to heavy bodied.
I seem to remember I really liked this cider last time around (that was the 2021 vintage) so I bought it again - but this 2022 effort doesn’t seem to be as good.
In terms of colour, it’s the same, light bronze. It has a very light touch of carbonation.
It’s ok and very pleasant to but I would bust any cider mill doors down to get at this one again. I’m guessing and feeling it would go well with a good quality cheddar cheese, but the problem is the ABV, you’d be plastered by the end of a few samples.
It’s ok. I’ll give it 3/5 but wouldn’t write home about it. For cider enthusiasts keen to compare it to another previous year’s vintage, I’d say give it a go but chances are you’ll be left wondering whether or not your last tastings on a prior vintage were as good as you thought they were.
