Val de Rance "Envies de... apéritif & tapas?" Cidre Rosé (2.5% ABV, 750ml). Although it may look like a blackberry cider, the Val de Rance Rosé is made exclusively from red flesh cider apples including Rouget de Dol, Guillevic and Avrolles. with no colourings or sweeteners, just sulphite. It's from their "modernized" cider line that's supposed to appeal to younger drinkers.
Dark reddish/copper colour, no haze, small white head. Medium sweet aroma of sweet red apples, dark fruits. Medium body, moderate to lively carbonation. On the palate, equal measures of ripe, sweet red apples and strawberries, and blackberries . with a healthy dose of vinegar. Apple and dark fruit esters in the finish, with moderate tannic bitterness, then getting sweetish again in the long aftertaste. No farmyard funk in this one.
While this cider is on the sweet side and strives to appeal to young/party folk, it's also intensely fruity - as I've come to expect from Val de Rance. If you can handle sweet ciders, this is very good. 8/10.
