Well, I’ve said that you find cider gems in Worcestershire - and here’s one!
Amazing nose and aroma - like the 1802 from Fletcher’s - but this one more subtle and understated. Hints this time of farmyard funk, apple peel, earthy hints and floral notes. Really nice.
The medium carbonation in this cider really helps. When I tried the vintage 1802, I was hoping for a 5/5 and it didn’t deliver - but this review is about the ‘original’ - and this one DOES deliver!
The light clemantine peel is there in the taste for sure - but the sweetness comes through with real balance, almost manufactured (but not).
The body is medium to full and has a decent (sweet) length, if a little short. There’s a dryness in the aftertaste which adds to the complexity and is rounded off with a cinnamon and spicey kick. It’s very festive! And medium-sweet b
The colour is amber/bronze and satisfying in the glass. It’s a great looking cider.
I rarely give a 5/5 but this effort is worth it. It’s was £3.45 for the bottle bit compared to the 750ml bottles of Fletcher’a cider at £7+ (where I bought it at Top Barn Farm Shop) this cider is a hidden gem. Ok, it sways on the sweet side but it has enough guile and vigour and balance to level it out as a worthy 5/5.
