My first time with Scottish cider, and I was definitely not disappointed. Light to middle carbonation, with a gentle almost lavender aroma, but I may be wrong, whatever it was it smelled wonderful. At 6.2% it packs quite a Wallop, but doesn't taste that strong, so be warned 😆 😜

Think Aspall’s, but in Scotland and you have Thistly Cider original (and when I say Aspall’s I mean the draught ‘cyder’). The only major difference is the taste. Under the nose there’s quite a bit - earthy farmyard hints, a hint of citrus zest with a sourness. Colour? Exactly like Aspall’s draught, hence my comparisons. It’s incredibly light in colour, a hint of lime/gold and it’s looks fantastic in the glass with medium to light carbonation. On tasting this cider it doesn’t have too much length on it. It certainly has a taste which bites and lingers enough to give a punch of satisfaction. If it were a tad more complex, I’d give it 5/5 but it’s the taste that has this cider as a solid 4/5. The back story is an artist and a farmer combing forces to become Scotland’s first big cider producer - and as someone who has pressed and made Scottish apples (Ayrshire) myself, mine too came out like this cider. Light, zesty, a hint of granny smith tasting apples and overall a great effort. At 6.2% you could have more than one and this cider would accompany a cheese board with perfection - especially a decent creamy Scottish cheddar with chutney and biscuits. 4/5. Would buy again.

Highly carbonated and light flavour. Similar to Aspells. Made from concentrate?

(Tasted on Oct. 7, 2023) Thistly Cross Original Cider (6.2% ABV, 500ml). Made from a variety of Scottish apples. Clear, bright golden colour. Medium body, mild carbonation. Sweetish, slightly vinegary apple aroma with tannins in the background. Very fruity first taste, with red apples, apple juice against very moderate acidity. Medium sweet I think is best to describe it. Not cloying. Rather like apple strudel. Apple skins and tannins toward the finish, with a lemony, fruity aftertaste, getting sweet again. Relatively uncomplicated cider, but with very pleasing apple notes. Very "clean" taste, so to speak. 8/10.
