Let’s have a whiff. Citrus zest with very light floral notes in the aroma but the latter is faint. This is Weston’s celebratory ‘1880’ vintage to cash in on their 145 years of cider making. It’s drinkable for sure, but very sweet. I was hoping it would be drier. Alas! Fizz-wise it’s very light, bordering on still with a lovely golden, slightly hazy hue. It’s got a lot of length, medium to long I’d say and lingers on the back palate. This cider has hints of apricot, faint liquorice, honey, light caramel, brown sugar, apple peel. and a hint of oak. It’s medium-sweet, pleasant but lacking a whole load of body. It’s not very tart or acidic and is silky smooth, I’ll give it that, probably the smoothest cider I’ve ever consumed. The cider is 6.2%ABV so it’s not Weston’s strongest effort and comes in a 500ml or 750ml clear glass bottle with crown cap. I’ve given it a 4/5 as it’s by far the smoothest cider I’ve ever had - and as the bottle’s back label states, it’s nice to raise a glass to 145 years of Henry Weston’s cider. I just wish it was drier, fizzier and packing a fuller apple punch.
