Dark gold colour, clear with very light fizz. Water, sugar & apple juice added. Baked apple aroma. Flavour carries spice and dried fruit. Smooth with some tannins. Perfectly drinkable but a little bland.

Well, I’ve always wanted to try a cider from the Cotswold Cider Co. The name of the chap who runs it, shares my first name - which was a nice side story! Sniffing the aroma in a pint glass there are hints - just hints of caramel, toffee and peach. On tasting, it’s a fairly thin cider but it has a bit of body, not much but it’s there and this isn’t necessarily a downside. The colour is full bronze and the carbonation fizzes out and the cider goes still. I did serve mine in a nucleated glass but it was futile. The cider is pretty watery after a soft initial bite it has a good solid apple taste and profile with some initial tannins and dry touch on each sip. The cider is incredibly smooth and mellow and slips down pretty easily. At 4.6% it’s not the strongest and you could session on it to a point - but it lacks any distinct appeal and I was hoping for better. It’s a medium dry cider for sure - bordering on the dry side with a nice subtle and natual tasting sweetness. Overall, it tastes of apple pie - particularly on the back end and overall is a very pleasant cider. It just lacks a bit of oomph under the hood - so I’m keen to try and find some other ciders made by the same producer and they’re all naturally made and crafted. From memory I paid around £3.30 for the 500ml bottle at 4.6%. 3/5.
