Montol is a Winter Solstice festival in Cornwall, and this cider, mulled with spices and herbs, is a traditional drink. Golden colour, with a pungent aroma dominated by pepper and thyme. Bitter, sour taste from the herbs, though the cider smoothes the bitterness somewhat, and with a light spiciness in the aftertaste. Served warm, the bitterness of the herbs becomes more mellow, and the spice is more obvious, with cinnamon leading the way. Unusual, unexpected flavours, and not at all like other mulled ciders. This grew on me, and was an enjoyably different drink for a chilly early summer night. Obtained direct from Cornish Bottled Beer & Cider.
