Not as much under the nose on this one as there is with the ‘Crimson King’. Some light peel, hint of apple funk but not much else.
This medium cider is incredibly refreshing mind you with punchy fizz and fresh Dabinet, Harry Masters and Jersey apple varieties - it’s really nice with a smooth flow after an initial zesty bite.
The length is fairly short and the dry side of this medium cider has you sipping for more. At 5%ABV you could easily ‘session’ on this cider and it’ll be popular with the ‘hot sunmer’s day so I’ll have a cider instead of a lager’ brigade.
It lacks a bit of complexity but don’t let that put you off as it’s an incredibly well-rounded light bodied cider. It’s sharp, light acidic and zesty - and really delivers.
This cider would go great with a nice cheese or salty pub snacks or a ploughman’s lunch as it has a definite, encouraging sweetness.
The apple blend is superb with each variety complimenting each other - this cider has a stringent apply flavour and comes highly recommended.
The Barbourne Cider Company (Barbourne is an area of Worcester city, UK) is based just a few hundred metres from where I live (as I also live in Barbourne) but this has hasn’t influenced my review.
4/5. Very nice. Give it a try if you can track it down via their website or via another outlet.
