Steel Bonnet is a reference to the preferred headware of the Reivers, horseback bandits who inhabited an area which straddled the border with England, referred to as The Debateable Lands, which fell outside the jurisdiction of either crown, until the unification of the crowns under James VI and I, when the Reivers days became numbered. This area includes the place Waulkmill cider is made, and is still wild and sparsely-populated to this day. The apples for this cider come from within The Debateable Lands, from both sides of the border. The aroma is of tart apple juice, and the flavour reflects this. Barrel-aged, this is a soft, easy-drunk cider, with a little wood in the aftertaste. Comes in a 330 ml bottle. Obtained direct from Waulkmill.

330ml bottle from Waulkmill Cider online. Pale yellow golden colour, no head and tart apple aroma. Taste is sweetish, mellow apple, fruity, sourish, with some light wood and funky notes. Light to medium bodied, low carbonation, dry tart finish with a little residual sweetness. Quite OK.
