‘Whiskey cider’ would be my 2 word summary of this cider. The nose has a strange whiskey edge to it - as does the taste towards the end of the length. The nose is fairly earthy with a deep soil aroma with fruity hints and and oak. Taste wise, it’s ok but I wouldn’t write a postcard to to Judge or Bushwalker on this one. At 7.4%ABV it’s nothing special and tastes very manufactured. It’s syrupy, yes - but also full of caramel in taste and velvety vanilla. It’s smooth, I’ll give it that - but just doesn’t have any real depth or complexity or character. It’s sweet and on the medium-sweet scale (in my opinion). I wanted more - expected more and just didn’t get it. It’s not bad - but it’s not great either. It’d go well with some salty snacks or even a medium to mature cheddar - but I just would fill my fridge with this stuff. ‘Vintage’ often implies quality and complexity - but this cider just doesn’t have enough going on to engage and entice my interest. It has a lovely deep amber/bronze colour that looks great in the glass - but this cider is better to look at than to taste.
