Henry Westons Aged Vintage 2023

2023 Medium Dry Aged Vintage (now discontinued by Henry Westons, I emailed them to ask and they told me). The nose on this one is faint. But there us something there - old leather, a tad floral and hints of toffee. This is a very lightly carbonated cider with a light golden hue that looks great in the glass. At 6.5%ABV it’s a cider that won’t take your legs away. The taste doesn’t disappoint either - I seem to remember trying the version from 2021 and being on the fence about it. The length is fairly short but does linger on with a deep apple swell that gets drier on the back end with a tart aftertaste - which soon mellows with a touch of dryness to round it off. It’s medium to full bodied and it has a sweetness for sure, most Weston’s ciders do, but it’s balanced and bang on ‘medium’ like its label states. If it were slightly more complex it’d be heading for a 5/5 but otherwise it’s a solid 4/5. Very enjoyable and would go well with a salty porky snack or cheddar if you’re a veggie. It’s aged for up to 180 days and in some ways, it’s a shame it’s been discontinued (I think replaced, at the moment, by their 1880 cider celebrating their 145th year of cidermaking.

Dark yellow colour, moderate fizz and clear. Light apple aroma. Bit of oak in the flavour. Refreshing but completely unremarkable.
