(This review is for Weston’s English Vintage Cider 750ml bottle - their own label, not the Aldi or Lidl version or the Sainsbury’s 500ml version). Under the nose there’s apple pulp, citrus zest and earthy notes. The taste is sweet and sharp with a bit of fizz and is medium to full bodied. The colour is bang on bronze - it looks great in the bottle and glass. Bittersweet aftertaste with oaky kickback. Weston’s produce two other fizzy ciders with a 6.8% ABV - their Signature and Aged. I’m pretty sure this tastes like one of them, perhaps Signature - but I’d have to taste them side by side. It’s sweet for sure - but it has a slight dryness that’s very welcoming with a real sugary hit. The length is medium to short but it swells around the mouth and lingers - hanging on with a citrus zest in the aftertaste along with apple peel and apple skin. Really nice. It’s not as complex in taste as I’d like and I’m always looking for that x-factor that makes me say ‘wow - and this just doesn’t do that - although it’s pleasant enough with the astringency At the end of the day it has an apple punch that’s nire Frank Bruno than it is Mike Tyson. 3/5.
